HAIR

I have very long hair down to below my waist so I am a bit more concerned about my hair than the average maybe. I've done lots of research but the bottom line is no one really knows what will happen. I've been told PH neutral shampoo is good. Apparently baby  shampoo s alkaline, most shampoo are a little acidic because the scalp is slightly acidic. I think the key maybe to go with gentle whatever that is. I've also opted for sulphate free. and just bought something called 'A'kin'

I'm also using the Paxman 'cold cap' during chemo.

I've bought myself some lovely scarves and bandanas

Hair started to'thin' on day 13. A weeks worth of hair left on the brush each morning. My hair still looks ok, only I know it's thinner. I've only washed it once a week and plaiting it loosley to keep it tangle free and so not shedding it all over the place all day. I'm only washing once  week so I don't think the shampoo has made any difference at all.

Week 6 My hair is so thin on top I'm virtually bald but I still have a fringe and quite alot at the sides so with the scarf on people don't realise I've lost any.

Nails

They also advise you to paint your nails a dark colour to protect them from the light as Chemo makes them more light sensitive.

week 6 - so far so good nails are fine.

Wig

I saw the'wig lady' at the hospital. I didn't think I'd be able to choose from a catalogue but she was really good at advising me about colour and style. We chose 2 long and 2 short, I think I'll go for short as I'll have to cut my hair to wear a wig and hopefully afterwards it'll grow gradually so the wig will bridge the gap.She will order them and I'll try on and choose 1. This is on national health, they look quite good and I don't see point paying a fortune or something I'll only be using for a short while. A good wig can cost £1000, I'd rather spend it on a holiday!!!

NHS  wig came today it is brilliant, I went for long in the end because you can have it  cut shorter if you want  It feels qiute alot like real hair and looks as if I've just stepped out of hairdressers wih my own hair done really well. (see blog) you can still wear it over your own long hair if it starts  thin,I thought you had to cut your hair to wear a wig but  that is not the case.

You need a 'wigcap' to wear under it, which you can get one off ebay for a couple of quid or I'm going to try and make one out of a pairof tights.
