Effects of 1st Chemo - 15th August

Well I thought I was doing fine. Tuesday (chemo day) I was fine,

Wednesday fine , district nurse came to give me a white blood cell booster injection, (Neulasta® (pegfilgrastim) is a prescription medication used to reduce the risk of infection (initially marked by fever) in patients with some tumors receiving strong chemotherapy that decreases the number of infection-fighting white blood cells).

Woke up Thursday feelng like I'd been run over by a train. I've taken anti nausea tablets and that's not too bad but I ache all over and feel quite woozy. I could have done with staying in bed but unfortunately I've had to go and have my 1st Herceptin. They give it seperately from Chemo 1st time so it can be monitored. I've electd to go on the Herceptin trial. This means I get the Herceptin through a self administered device, in the long run this will be better as it's not given intravenously so only takes 5 minutes, but because it's a trial I have to be monitored for the 1st one for 6 hours. I suppose if I'm going to be poorly the best place to be is a hospital.

I started feeling rough on Thursday and although I have periods of feeling  a bit better I don't plan to be doing anything much for the next few days cos generally I feel completely wiped out, a little bit of nausea but not too bad. I got some little white pimples on my chin but  some witch hazel gel cleared them up quickly. (this turned into a rash needing Hyro cortisone cream, taught me to take every little thing seriously) I also was a little constipated, I did nothing about it  which was a mistake because although it cleared I'd have been more comfortable if I'd taken something. I also had sore back of neck and shoulders for a couple of days and a stuffy nose

Monday - managed to walk the dog, go to aquarobic class, hold a sensible conversation and not go to bed in afternoon. So my husband thinks I may be well enough to go away on the narrow boat for a few days.

Hair loss day 13 (see hair page)

2nd week - tired but able to do a bit more

3rd week - ok really but falling asleep in afternoons
